Sam and I were blessed by a wonderful worship service this morning. It had been a few weeks since we had been able to go to church, so we Googled churches close to where we want to live. I found one, nosed around their website, read their statement of faith, and it all looked Biblical, so we checked it out today… and I now see that God’s hand was at work leading us there.
We were met by kind, smiling faces at the door and chatted with a few locals. We had tea and pastries and then the service started. We had been warned by the greeters that this Sunday wasn’t going to be a bit atypical, as they’re on their “school holiday” schedule, so we weren’t quite sure what to expect. But we were surrounded by voices lifting up worship to God, proclaiming thanks for all their blessings. We were reminded that no matter what might go wrong, or seem to not go as planned, God is sovereign and all we’ve been promised and blessed with outweighs our struggles. We saw adults and children worshiping God together and teaching others about His word. We saw genuine Christlike love. And, we even saw some familiar faces, which was a surprise to us.
I’m not sure if it will be our permanent home church, but today we were blessed and recharged. It was great to pause and worship in the body of Christ, with people that I had never met. I think I even might have sang a few lines in an English accent… it’s hard not to when surrounded by such joyful (and very English!) voices. It was a blessing! He is truly Lord of all the earth!
Lord of all the earth
We shout Your name, shout Your name
Filling up the skies
With endless praise, endless praise
We love to shout Your name, oh Lord
